Recreation Activities

The nearly 500,000-acre Sonoran Desert National Monument is open to many outdoor recreational opportunities.

Some of the opportunities are:

  • Hiking – There are three developed trails within the monument and several roads that provide access to areas within the monument
  • Camping – Abundant primitive camping is available. Three developed campgrounds are available.
  • Nature study
  • Hunting – As permitted by Arizona Game and Fish Department regulations.
  • Sightseeing
  • Mountain biking
  • Horseback riding
  • OHV

OHVs and mountain bikes are restricted in some areas, including the three wilderness areas within the monument. All vehicles and mountain bikes must stay on designated roads and trails.
