GOOD NEWS for the saguaros, desert tortoises, and petroglyphs of Sonoran Desert National Monument!

A US District Court ruled today against the BLM’s management plan, which continued to allow destructive target shooting in the Monument in spite of its own data and analysis showing irreparable damage to protected resources.

With adjacent public lands and a multi-million dollar shooting range just miles away, target shooters will still have plenty of better places to shoot without damaging the important natural and cultural resources of the monument.

Thanks to our partners at The Wilderness Society, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Archaeology Southwest, and the Western Environmental Law Center for pursuing this case, and to others such as the Sierra Club – Grand Canyon Chapter for their continued service projects removing target shooting trash.
