President’s Welcome

As I am writing this on a January day, the sun is shinning and the temperature is a pleasant 70 degrees. As one of my friends used to comment, ”Another lousy winter day in Arizona”.  Welcome to the newsletter of the Friends of the Sonoran Desert National Monument (FSDNM).  Much like our organization, our FSDNM newsletter too is just getting off the ground but, we are looking forward to a new year of challenges, projects and activities!

One key project our group will soon be involved with will be the review of the draft of the monument’s resource management plan soon to be released by the BLM. This plan will outline how the various resources (plant, animal, cultural) and the land itself will be used within the monument. You will be hearing more about this as information and the plan becomes available. The FSDNM are excited to part of this review process and we view it as an opportunity to help preserve the integrity and beauty of the Sonoran Desert National Monument.

Thank you for your support, please join us in our activities and enjoy Arizona and this wonderful winter weather!

Best Regards,

Thomas Hulen
